Did you know becoming a real estate agent was a hard NO for me at first?
Real Estate Bees asked to feature me as a success story, and as I worked through their thoughtful questions, I revisited my pivot into the industry and early days as an agent.
Years ago, when considering how to consolidate my two jobs as a mental health clinician and technical manuscript editor, a friend suggested becoming a real estate agent. I said, absolutely not.
I didn’t see how my values of consumer advocacy, honesty, and transparency could be effective in an industry rife with sales tactics and pushiness.
But this good friend encouraged me, I gave it a shot, and here we are, over a decade later. I stuck to my values. It turns out many people who need to purchase and sell property are looking for a straightforward advocate. My business model has done very well.
There are wonderful things about being an agent: working closely with people to help them achieve their goals; the freedom of running my own business; and the myriad opportunities to learn in an ever-evolving industry landscape. I wasn’t sure real estate would be a good fit for me, but it turned out to be one of the best things that’s happened in my life.
